Her Moumou, Distance Unknown
I have already spent 11 months in the city of Fez. During that break from college, I did many creative things to pass the time and maintain my sanity. This was necessary in a simultaneously conservative and touristy city where it was quite difficult to make Moroccan friends without some sort of agenda, and where most legal activities came to a stop between the hours of 9 and 10 in the evening. One of my many pastimes was to sit on my host family's rooftop and look to the South East, where on a clear day one could see a solitary mountain--snow-capped in the winter--gleaming in the distance.
I gathered from my host family that this mountain was named Her Moumou, which when translated from its original tongue (presumably Tamazight) may or may not mean Mother's Milk. My family were unable to share any more specific details about the mountain's altitude or its distance from Fez, nor could the internet provide any information. Her Moumou simply did not exist on Google. Obviously this meant it was worth visiting so I made vague plans to explore the area which were never realized.
Now that I am back in Fez for another 15 months, its obviously time to actually put this mountain on a map. The next few posts will be about finding and then attempting to conquer Her Moumou, then after that, who knows.
